From minute to minute, day to day, and year to year, everything in the world is changing. What is alive is dying. What is new becomes older. What is already old will eventually disappear or change into a form alien to the original.

We react with a mix of shock and sadness as we become painfully aware that everyone and everything everywhere are no longer what they were, nor will they ever be again.

She was a follower on Twitter, but as so often happened, she was nobody I knew. So I did some checking and it revealed that her name was Andrea and that she was living on a farm in Alberta, Canada.

In a quick scan of her bio, my eyes locked on these words: “Making mediocrity fabulous one day at a time.” Those words weren’t the ordinary kind that merely talked. Of Hopes, Dreams, And Eternity

It’s a tall stone obelisk, all four sides covered with heartfelt words written by a grieving mother.

She had been so proud of her son. While still in his twenties, he had already made his mark as a fine railroad engineer. It all came to a tragic end one stormy night on the side of a mountain near Asheville, North Carolina.
