Deep inside all of us is a strong want, wish, or yearning. It can be as wide and general as wanting to live a good life or as narrow and specific as owning a fine home in the best part of town. Or maybe it’s a matter of personal achievement, becoming everything you could possibly be.
As you view it, three reasons are responsible for you being unable to satisfy that want. You either don’t have the right contacts, the know-how, or enough money to make it happen.
What’s agonizing is that others seem to have overcome those obstacles, so it’s logical to wonder what they have going for them that you don’t. Then again, maybe it’s not so much what they know, but rather that they take full advantage of what they do know by selling their thoughts and ideas to those who can make things happen.
Maybe they are able to engage with others in a way that they and the other person both gain. That’s when it’s so easy to count yourself out, assume you can’t be that smooth, concise, and effective. Unfortunately, by accepting that option, you become your own worst enemy and end up empty-handed. But it need not be that way at all.
The first step is to understand that there is someone out there somewhere who is not only able and willing to help you, so to speak, push your boat away from the dock and into the current, but also sees themselves as benefitting.
It’s surprising how quickly that someone can appear, when all those interpersonal relationships you know or have heard about must come into play. It happens all the time and when it does, you must be ready for it.
An exhaustive amount of information has been written and said as to how best to handle yourself when that time arrives. To all of that, however, here is what I have either observed or experienced in real life, some of which aren’t stressed nearly enough.
First, every alliance or meeting of minds begins not by talking to the label that society has tacked onto a person, but rather to the living, breathing, walking and talking human beings that we all are. Only after that is established should you venture into the label arena. Even then, it’s wise to remember that despite the label, the human element with all its traits and emotions is still present. Not all plumbers find the leak the first time, not all lawyers say the right words in front of a judge, not all doctors make the correct diagnosis every time.
No matter how off-the-wall this might sound, the shoes a person is wearing communicates more information as to how that person looks at life and at themselves than any other item of dress. Specifically, the factors involved here are style, appropriateness to the occasion, cleanliness, and extent of wear. The relationships are there, but it’s up to you to make them.
Be conscious of how many questions the other person asks you about yourself and how well they have prepared themselves to reveal to you things about themselves. That opens the door for you to convey to them the kind of person you are and how it relates to the subject the two of you are addressing.
Not every question requires the usual “yes” and “no” answer. Qualifiers are needed because our world is in a constant state of change. What was true yesterday might not be true today. Nothing is rigid or ironclad or immune from any force no matter from how close inside or how far outside it is exerted. As should be, there will always be circumstances to be dealt with and consequences to be accepted.
By itself, the kind of watch a person is wearing is a zero indicator of the wearer’s qualities. At the same time, however, the fine and expensive watches are most always worn by those who deeply appreciate precision, innovation, design, and elegance. Their choice of watch almost always reflects the wearer’s refinement of thought, orderliness of execution, authority of action, and endurance. An important aside is that the absence of such traits raises the possibility, even the probability that both the watch and the wearer aren’t for real.
Look for eyes directed at you and seemingly for you, eyes that come alive with excitement at the mention of an idea, eyes that dance to good humor, give you good feelings about what the person is saying and believes. Eyes are accurate indicators of interest and acceptance of what is new, exciting, and potentially profitable.
The world has always been awash in opportunity, people looking for like minds to solve problems, to explore and discover, people who refuse to be denied what they dream for.
You will never know when any of that is poised to match or be woven into what you wish to do or become. It could arrive with excitement and majesty or quietly ease up to you on your blind side. It’s up to you to be aware.
As simple as they are, such factors as those mentioned here complement bold actions and great missions and discoveries. If they didn’t, some of the world’s greatest inventions would never have begun as an idea sketched out on a paper napkin.
